Aces no-show in loss to Mercury to open WNBA season

LAS VEGAS — A’ja Wilson finished with 19 points, but the Las Vegas Aces lost, 99-66, to the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday in their WNBA season opener at T-Mobile Arena.

The game was a rematch of the 2025 WNBA Finals that the Aces swept en route to their third title in the past four seasons.

Jackie Young added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Aces.

Alyssa Thomas had 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds as all five Mercury starters scored in double figures. Rookie Jovana Nogic added 19 points and made 4 of 5 from 3-point range, while Natasha Mack posted a double-double of 10 points and 15 boards.

 

Phoenix never trailed and led 83-45 at the end of the third quarter.

The Aces received their 2025 championship rings in a pregame ceremony. They play at Los Angeles on Sunday in the second of back-to-back games.
