Prince Harry made good on a promise he gave to a 102-year-old World War II veteran by jumping out of a plane over Canada.

Harry met former paratrooper Ed Marshall at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto in November, according to the Sunnybrook Foundation.

Marshall told the royal during his visit that he celebrated his 100th birthday by skydiving. Apparently inspired by that accomplishment, the 42-year-old duke committed to taking a leap to raise awareness for the Sunnybrook Foundation and another group that supports Canadian troops and veterans called True Patriot Love Foundation.

According to People, Marshall’s doctors determined that jumping out of a plane again could be unsafe for the centenarian.

So on Friday, Marshall’s grandson Bailey took his grandfather’s place and leapt from a plane flying over Toronto with Harry.

“You cannot let a 102-year-old veteran down,” Harry told Canadian station CTV after landing safely.

Video shows excited supporters rushing toward the pair as they returned to land.

Harry called his wife Meghan Markle almost immediately to assure her their two young children still have a father.

“I didn’t have to convince her,” he said of doing the jump, “but she was relieved once we were down.”

The prince served two tours of duty in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot during a 10-year stint with the British Army. He and Markle recently returned to England after living in California for six years.
