Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross announce separation after 9 years

Mel Gibson and his longtime partner, Rosalind Ross, have announced the end of their relationship before the start of the new year.
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” the couple said in a joint statement to People on Tuesday.
According to the outlet, Gibson and Ross quietly went their separate ways about a year ago.
Oscar-winning Gibson and Ross, a 35-year-old screenwriter, met through mutual friends in 2014 and started dating shortly thereafter. In 2017, they welcomed their son, Lars, just days before Gibson was nominated for a Best Director Academy Award for “Hacksaw Ridge.” Lars was Gibson’s first child with Ross and ninth overall.
“What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son,” Gibson said in a statement at the time. “This is a truly wonderful honor.”
The 69-year-old “Braveheart” star shares his first seven children — Hannah, Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas — with his first wife, Australian dental nurse Robyn Moore. She filed for divorce in 2009, and Gibson quickly started dating Russian pianist and songwriter Oksana Grigorieva. The pair welcomed their daughter, Lucia, in 2009, then ended their relationship early the following year. Their split was followed by a lengthy legal and custody battle before Gibson ultimately connected with Ross.
In January 2025, the couple lost their Malibu home in California as wildfires ripped through the Los Angeles area. Gibson was away for work at the time, but his family and animals made it out of the residence unharmed. Gibson has since been focusing on “The Resurrection of the Christ,” a follow-up to his 2004 movie, “The Passion of the Christ.”
