Big Sean's 'Detroit' to be released on vinyl for Record Store Day 2026
Published in Entertainment News
DETROIT — Big Sean will release his 2012 mixtape "Detroit" on vinyl for the first time for this year's Record Store Day, it was announced Wednesday.
The Detroit rapper is one of several Detroit-centric artists — along with Danny Brown, Alice Cooper and Madonna — participating in this year's Record Store Day, which will be celebrated at independent record stores on April 18.
Big Sean's "Detroit" will be released as a two-LP set pressed on black vinyl and will be limited to 2,000 copies.
"Detroit" was released in between Sean's first two studio albums, 2011's "Finally Famous" and 2013's "Hall of Fame." The critically acclaimed set — which includes appearances by J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Royce da 5'9", Jhené Aiko and spoken word interludes by Young Jeezy, Common and Snoop Dogg (then Snoop Lion) — was initially released as a free download. Big Sean's 2020 album "Detroit 2" is a sequel to the project.
Elsewhere, Danny Brown's 2012 single "Grown Up" will arrive on Record Store Day as a 7-inch single, limited to 1,500 copies, with the song's instrumental on its B-side.
Alice Cooper will release his 2025 album "The Revenge of Alice Cooper" as a picture disc limited to 1,000 copies. The album is the first recording featuring the original members of Cooper's band since "Muscle of Love," released in 1973.
Madonna's "The Confessions Tour — Live from London," her live album from her 2006 "Confessions" tour, which was originally released in 2007, will be pressed on "Starburst Pink" and "Purple Splatter" vinyl, and will be limited to 5,700 copies.
Record Store Day is an annual event going back to 2008, typically held on the third Saturday in April. This year's Record Store Day ambassador is Bruno Mars.
Big Sean was in Detroit this week celebrating the opening of the new Boys & Girls Club inside Michigan Central, of which he's a backer, along with Usher.
Big Sean was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame at a ceremony Tuesday night inside the new facility.
