Britney Spears' 3 ex-husbands weigh in on her DUI arrest
Published in Entertainment News
All three of Britney Spears’ ex-husbands are reentering the limelight amid the pop star’s DUI arrest Wednesday.
The 44-year-old “Toxic” singer was taken into custody Wednesday after she was pulled over in Westlake Village. She was cited and released early Thursday, per online records. TMZ reported that an unknown substance found in the vehicle was also being tested.
Childhood friend Jason Alexander, who was married to the Grammy winner for 55 hours in 2004, chimed in with an Instagram statement defending his ex late Thursday, to say “everyone needs to slow down with the headlines.”
California Highway Patrol told TMZ that Spears “showed signs of impairment” when they pulled her over for erratic driving, and underwent field sobriety tests before she was arrested for “driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.”
Sources told the outlet that the pills found were Adderall, which Spears recently procured in Mexico.
“The internet has already jumped straight to ‘drunk driving,’ ‘rehab,’ and all kinds of speculation that hasn’t been proven,” reads Alexander’s post. “Britney Spears deserves the same thing anyone else does: facts, fairness, and due process — not headlines built on speculation.”
Spears’ third ex-husband, 32-year-old Asghari — to whom she was married for 14 months before parting ways — was asked about the news during an appearance on NewsNation.
“Everybody makes mistakes and everybody deserves privacy,” said Asghari. “If we learn from history, we have to understand the press could hurt somebody recovering from a situation like this.”
Spears was also married from 2004 to 2007 to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and 19-year-old Jayden James.
A lawyer for Federline, 47, told TMZ Friday afternoon that his client has spoken to Spears since the arrest and “hopes for the best for Britney and if help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her.”
Insiders told TMZ that Spears recently fired multiple staffers, including her sober coaches and security.
Spears’ rep said in a statement to the Daily News Thursday that her sons will ‘be spending time with her” and “her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for [her] well being.”
The “Gimme More” singer will “take the rights steps” following the arrest “and comply with the law. … Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs.”
