SAN DIEGO — The five original members of Aerosmith are reuniting to perform and to be honored in music at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1.

The concerts come two years after Aerosmith canceled its farewell tour and announced its retirement from touring after lead singer Steven Tyler suffered what was then described as a career-ending vocal cord and larynx injury.

Billed as “California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends,” the Hollywood Bowl concerts will feature a star-studded array of guest artists who will perform songs by the 56-year-old Boston band. The lineup includes Train’s Pat Monahan (who co-wrote the score for the Old Globe’s now-running world premiere musical “Begin Again”), Heart (whose lead singer Ann Wilson is a San Diego native), Run DMC, Eric Church, Sammy Hagar, the Black Crowes, Billy Idol and Andrew Watt.

Also confirmed to appear are members of Guns N’ Roses (Slash and Duff McKagan), Alice In Chains (Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez), Red Hot Chili Peppers (Chad Smith), Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt) and Godsmack (Sully Erna), along with Marcus King, Tom Morello, Adam Wakeman, Audley Freed, Kenny Aronoff and more to be announced. Don Was will serve as music director for the two concerts. Additional guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

The concerts are being jointly produced by Blackbird Productions and Live Nation-Hewitt Silva, whose partial namesake, Bill Silva, was San Diego’s leading locally based concert promoter in the 1980s and ’90s.

Formed in 1970, Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

The band has not toured extensively in nearly a decade. Drummer Joey Kramer took a leave of absence from the group in 2022. That was two years after he unsuccessfully sued his bandmates for stipulating he would have to audition to rejoin the band following months of rehabilitation for his ankle injury.

But a photo released Wednesday to promote the upcoming Hollywood Bowl concerts shows Kramer standing alongside Aerosmith’s other four members, suggesting he will be back in the fold for these two concerts.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Saturday at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. A pre-sale for Citi card member will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m. and several other pre-sales will also be held. A number of VIP options will also be available. More information is available at aerosmithandfriends.com/ and ticketmaster.com.
