Jack White is mourning the death of his elder brother Edward 'Eddie' Gillis.
The rocker's sibling - who managed the vinyl pressing plant in Detroit, Michigan for White's Third Man Records label - died on Saturday (24.10.26) after a "tough battle against cancer" and the musician paid tribute to him as a "funny and generous person that everybody loved".
In a post on Instagram, White wrote: "The world lost a beautiful soul today. My brother Edward Gerard Gillis has passed over to heaven this morning after having fought a tough battle against cancer.
"Ed was such a caring, funny and generous person that everybody loved. He was a proud husband to Angie and the father of two beautiful children Amelia and Garrett.
"He truly would have many of us laughing and falling out of our chairs at times. He was the manager of our Third Man Pressing plant for 10 years and pressed hundreds of thousands of other artists records."
White added of his brother: "He loved making small sculptures and flowers from the vinyl scraps of the plant that people really enjoyed.
"Eddie was also an acclaimed pastry chef that ran kitchens and bake shops for the Ritz Carlton hotel and Beaumont Hospital.
"He did so much while he was on this planet."
White - who is the youngest of 10 siblings - went on to recall Eddie's musician talents revealing he was the family's guitar player when he was growing up.
He added: "In his youth Eddie was the guitar player in the family when we were all growing up back when I was on drums only, and he was just great at the instrument.
"I was lucky to play music together with him at times throughout our lives, once even for the Detroit Tigers while they were at spring training in Florida with our old band that included Dominic Davis on bass.
"He taught me so many wonderful and simple things over the years that I'll never forget; how to string a guitar, how to fish on the Detroit river, how to drive a stick shift …
"He was an amazing big brother to me and I just hate to see him leave, but I'm glad he is at peace. God bless you Eddie."
