'SINNERS'

Rated R for strong bloody violence, sexual content and language.

What it’s about: A historical horror movie about twin brothers returning to their hometown in Mississippi in 1932 and encountering otherworldly danger.

The kid attractor factor: Teens will be drawn to this big horror blockbuster film for the big screen genre thrills.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Beware those that would seek to infiltrate and exploit your community.

Violence: Extreme bloody violence throughout — shooting, stabbing, biting, explosions, etc.

Language: Swearing throughout.

Sex: Several frank sex scenes but no graphic nudity.

Drugs: Alcohol

Parents’ advisory: Too violent and sexy for kids. OK for mature teens.

'THE WEDDING BANQUET'

 

Rated R for language and some sexual material/nudity.

What it’s about: A remake of the 1993 Ang Lee film, the story follows a sham marriage between a gay Korean artist and his lesbian roommate.

The kid attractor factor: This is more of an adult drama, but some teens and young adults might be interested in this dramedy.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Family is everything — chosen and biological.

Violence: None

Language: Some swearing.

Sex: References to sex and some nudity.

Drugs: Binge drinking.

Parents’ advisory: Fine for teens, a bit too mature for kids.
