Auto review: 25 Can-Am Defender Limited tears up the trails
Published in Business News
Sometimes here in Grasso’s Garage, we like to shake things up a bit and consider vehicles a little out of the ordinary. In that spirit, I present the 2025 Can-Am Defender Limited. Perfect for offroading, trail riding, farm work and all sorts of work tasks, the Can-Am Defender Limited is ready for the ultimate test. In a month-long test in the Catskill Mountains, the Defender stretched its legs nicely through narrow trails, up steep hills and across muddy fields.
Our Defender, wrapped in Dusty Navy, was powered by the Rotax 976 CC, V-Twin, liquid-cooled engine, producing 82 horsepower and 69 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a PRO-TORQ CVT transmission with Quick Response System and high-airflow ventilation, the Defender Limited has plenty of power but can be noisy at times when pressed to the limit, but it's still exceptionally useful.
Features on our Defender Limited were surprisingly upscale, including air conditioning, USB ports, LED lighting, 7.6 digital display with keypad, adjustable steering wheel and adjustable seats. To get work done, it had a 4,500-pound winch, towing capacity up to 2,500 pounds and 30-inch tires. If this isn’t getting you excited, I’m not sure what would.
Additionally, we noted the three drive modes (2WD/4WD/Turf mode), 65-inch wide arched A-arms, XT front bumper, rear glass window, power side windows and front three-position full-glass tilt-up windshield with wiper kit. The Defender Limited's high stance exceeded expectations. This vehicle could go anywhere and do anything!
In fact, you could say the Defender Limited is the Range Rover of side-by-sides. Our tester performed flawlessly riding on, through or over all types of terrain. Its power and flexibility were truly impressive. And it looked great, too. Its comfort and style sets the Defender apart and way ahead of other side-by-side vehicles.
