Attorney for holdout juror calls Lindsay Clancy 'demonic'

BOSTON — In a new interview, the attorney for the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy case called the defendant “demonic,” and said her attorney Kevin Reddington has “lost his mind.”

Edward Paltzik slammed Reddington and defended his client Michael Peguy Desronvil during an interview with Fox New’s Kayleigh McEnany that aired Monday morning.

Desronvil was the only juror who wouldn’t find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity, according to other panelists who have come out publicly since a mistrial was declared in the case Sept. 4.

Clancy is accused of murdering her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023.

During her trial, Reddington put up an insanity defense, saying that Clancy couldn’t be held criminally responsible for killing her children because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

In a note to Judge William Sullivan during deliberations, the jury foreperson wrote that Desronvil had expressed doubt about Clancy’s guilt but refused to follow the law, a characterization the juror and his lawyer have refuted.

“Michael had zero doubt,” Paltzik said in the interview.

Paltzik also pushed back on claims from Reddington that Desronvil may have lied under oath when asked if he could follow the law and strong rhetoric from the defense attorney right after the mistrial was declared that criticized his client, who hadn’t been identified at the time.

“Kevin Reddington is clearly attacking the Sixth Amendment. He’s clearly attacking the right to trial by jury. He is off the rails,” Paltzik told McEnany. “Ever since the moment he learned that Michael was not going to side with him, I believe that Kevin Reddington lost his mind.”

Since the mistrial declaration, Reddington has also filed a motion requesting an inquiry into Desronvil, including information about allegations of domestic abuse involving the lone juror, records from any cases he may be the subject of, and his phone data from the period when the Clancy jury was deliberating.

“There was an allegation of domestic violence and of a restraining order,” McEnany asked during the interview. “Your response to that?”

“Never happened. Every single allegation against Michael is false,” Paltzik answered. “Fabricated, never happened, categorically false. It just didn’t happen.”

“There was a charge of assault that was dropped three months later in 2021. Do you want to elaborate,” she followed up.

“I will elaborate. That was a lie,” he said. “Once you meet Michael, you realize that this man is incapable of violence.”

Paltizk said that he would be filing a bar complaint against Reddington, telling McEnany that the defense attorney’s actions are “not consistent with the standards of professionalism.”

When asked if Reddington had a comment on the Fox interview, a spokesperson referred the Herald to his motions filed with the court.

“I think Ed ought to learn how to go into the courtroom and articulate his position rather than be a histrionic individual that’s just mouthing off to the media,” Reddington told a Fox reporter in a clip played during Paltzik’s interview. “I think the biggest misconception is that this individual is referred to as the holdout juror. He, in fact, is the obstructionist juror.”

Paltzik said the “attack” on Desronvil by Reddington and others has caused a strain on his client and his family.

The attorney wouldn’t go so far as to say that Desronvil was in hiding, telling McEnany, “We are taking measures to ensure that he’s always going to be safe.”

“To Kevin Reddington and to the deranged individuals who think that the murder of three innocent children is okay,” he continued, “my message is you will never break Michael because Michael is indestructible.”

McEnany asked if Paltzik had any response to the sentiment that the case represents a moment to push for better postpartum mental health care, but the attorney said, “This is not that moment.”

He said, instead, that the case is about the legacy of Cora, Dawson, and Callan Clancy.

“That’s what this trial is about. It’s about three innocent children who were murdered by their demonic mother,” he said. “And this shouldn’t be controversial. We are not backing down. We are not giving one inch on that.”
