Michigan man dies after getting hit by vehicle while teaching daughter to drive

DETROIT — A Warren man died Sunday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while teaching his daughter how to drive, police said.

In the incident, which happened on Warner Avenue near Stephens Road, a 62-year-old man was showing his 18-year-old daughter how to operate a motor vehicle. During the lesson, the young woman struck her father with the vehicle and dragged him a short distance, authorities said.

First responders were called, and medics took the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, investigators said.

Police said the daughter remained at the scene of the crash and is cooperating with authorities.

Detectives said drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash. They also said the incident remains under investigation.

The incident follows other accidents in Michigan involving pedestrians.

Last week, a St. Clair Shores woman convicted of leaving a fatal crash with a pedestrian last year was to begin serving her sentence of a year in the county jail, which will be served over 52 weekends, followed by two years' probation and 200 hours of community service.

Earlier this month, a Romulus man accused of striking a pedestrian with a vehicle in Huron Township and fleeing was charged.

Last month, a driver fatally struck a man in his 30s in the Plymouth and Evergreen roads area of Detroit before fleeing. Police are still looking for the suspect.
